Electronic invoicing and payments in the mobility sector: A-Cube's APIs for MaaS, scooters and car sharing

In recent years, the mobility sector has undergone a profound transformation. From individual car ownership, we have moved to shared, flexible and on-demand usage models. Mobility as a Service (MaaS), micromobility, car sharing and e-scooters are now part of the everyday urban ecosystem. Driving this evolution are growing environmental awareness, the need to decongest cities and adopt a sustainable lifestyle. Behind the seamless, frictionless customer experience, however, lie complex infrastructures. These must ensure secure payment flows and mechanisms for issuing compliant invoices, tax traceability and bank reconciliation. Integrating these aspects is one of the main challenges for sector operators. At A-Cube we have developed API solutions for MaaS and the various mobility services available. These help ensure a flawless customer experience while keeping control over financial movements, tax obligations and infrastructure scalability. Here’s how.
A-Cube: an API-first ecosystem for MaaS
A-Cube solutions are designed to adapt to the needs of many organisations, even in very different sectors. Mobility systems, in particular, have to manage dynamic pricing, digital subscriptions and large-scale transactions. They need tools that automate invoicing, simplify collections and ensure tax compliance, without slowing down the user experience. Here are the most efficient MaaS APIs and how they can simplify the tax and digital flows of those working in mobility.
1. E-invoicing API
Anyone running a mobility service - whether it is a car sharing service or an e-bike rental service - deals every day with numerous micro-payments, subscriptions of different amounts depending on the offer, and on-demand services with variable amounts. All this can create friction in managing electronic invoices, especially if they have not yet been automated.
The E-invoicing API is A-Cube’s solution for electronic invoicing with a fast, secure interface that is easy to integrate with any platform or software. It allows you to:
issue electronic invoices automatically in compliant XML or JSON format;
send them to the Interchange System without manual intervention;
activate the digital preservation service for electronic invoices with a digital signature;
use a dashboard to view transactions in real time, check document status and monitor aggregate or VAT-number-specific statistics.
It is ideal for managing high business volumes as well as the smaller flows of newly established businesses. Moreover, being scalable, it can grow over time with the business. Thanks to this API for MaaS, mobility platforms can automate tax management while focusing on UX and customer services. A concrete advantage for those who want to be compliant without building a complex tax infrastructure from scratch.
2. Peppol API
MaaS operators working on a European scale or collaborating with public bodies may need to use Peppol for document exchange. In addition to being accredited Peppol Access Points, at A-Cube we have also developed a Peppol platform that allows you to manage various documents such as invoices, credit notes, orders and order responses. By integrating it, it is possible to:
send and receive documents in real time, with no waiting or queues;
automatically manage the processes and checks related to document compliance;
monitor usage and consult total statistics or statistics by VAT number;
manage incoming and outgoing document flows and analyse them using filters;
use webhooks to decide how the platform should interact with systems depending on the companies;
choose specific configurations based on your needs.
A-Cube’s Peppol API allows documents to be issued and received according to European standards. Mobility services that integrate it can already count on a future of digital compliance in line with EU directives.
3. Open Banking API
As we have already seen, MaaS operators manage micropayments, subscriptions, prepaid plans and recurring collections at the same time. A-Cube’s Open Banking API enables the reading of current account and credit card transactions (AISP), and the management of payment instructions and request-to-pay for collections (PISP). Through this solution, MaaS providers can:
automatically acquire transactions from multiple current accounts and business cards on a daily basis;
make collections part of an automated flow by adding payment instructions for suppliers and request-to-pay for customers;
access a dashboard to monitor balances and transactions;
connect company ERPs without overhauling the technologies already in use;
integrate electronic invoicing directly, with automatic reconciliation between invoices and collections;
automatically comply with the applicable regulations.
The Open Banking API enables an integrated financial view, reduces manual work, provides transparency and simplifies reconciliation. These are essential elements for reducing errors, timings and manual operations. Like the other A-Cube solutions, it is not exclusively an API for MaaS but can prove particularly useful in this sector.
4. Stripe e-invoicing App
Many businesses in the mobility sector use Stripe as their payment system. The problem? In Italy, Stripe does not allow the direct sending of electronic invoices automatically and synchronised with transactions, unless third-party apps are used.
For this reason, at A-Cube we developed the Stripe e-invoicing App. It allows you to:
automatically generate an electronic invoice for every transaction, converting collection data into XML to be sent to the Interchange System;
monitor submissions, invoice statuses and pending documents because they are not compliant directly from the Stripe dashboard and correct any rejected invoices;
integrate the information generated by Stripe into your ERP or add other customised features among those offered by A-Cube;
be compliant with the regulations in force.
In addition to removing friction between collections and invoices and ensuring a secure, transparent automated flow, the Stripe e-invoicing App is easy to install and use. Even for those without a technical or IT background. It can be downloaded from the Stripe Marketplace.
Many mobility platforms choose Stripe for payment simplicity and scalability. This app bridges the gap between collections and tax compliance, allowing you to maintain operational agility and regulatory completeness. The API for MaaS that sector operators have been waiting for.
Mobility, payments and compliance for MaaS thanks to A-Cube APIs
The success of mobility services will depend not only on the user experience but on the ability to orchestrate payments, invoices, authorisations and compliance in an integrated way.
The underlying digital infrastructure must be modular, scalable, ready to interact with different players and with regulations that are constantly evolving. With A-Cube APIs, mobility platforms can build a solid, secure and compliant backend, leaving room for innovation on the user-facing side.
