Stripe is one of the most widely used platforms in the world for payment processing with cards, digital wallets, Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) and cryptocurrencies, and offers advanced management for subscriptions and recurring purchases. It has been chosen by over 1 million companies including Amazon, Shopify, Uber and Slack. Over the past year, Stripe's payment volume has increased by 38% compared with the previous year, reaching 1.4 trillion dollars, the equivalent of 1.3% of global GDP. In Italy, where it cannot be directly integrated with the electronic invoicing system required by law, it can be used to the full with the A-Cube Stripe App.

Stripe and electronic invoicing in Italy

From 2022 onwards, Stripe has made it possible to develop apps that allow custom workflows to be integrated into the work dashboard and simplify different types of operations. This opportunity has proved particularly fortunate in Italy. Here, although it offers an electronic invoicing service, Stripe cannot be directly linked to the Revenue Agency system that almost all VAT number holders must use from 2024. The exception concerns healthcare professionals who must send data to the Health Card system and small agricultural entrepreneurs.

A-Cube App for Stripe for e-invoicing

As we have just seen, one of the main needs of e-commerce businesses and companies that accept online payments in Italy is to issue the electronic invoice for every transaction automatically and in compliance with the rules. For the transmission of electronic receipts, it is often necessary to connect the platform to software or APIs for invoicing that are compatible with Italian tax regulations. To solve this problem, as an accredited channel by the Revenue Agency, we developed A-Cube e-invoicing App for Stripe.

The A-Cube Stripe App can be used by any e-commerce site or software that has implemented Stripe as a payment gateway. It allows electronic invoices to be sent and managed directly from the Stripe dashboard with a single click or automatically, in an integrated and compliant way. More specifically, the system automatically transforms the data generated by Stripe for each transaction into standard XML format and can send them directly to the Interchange System. Everything happens in real time, so as not to create slowdowns or queues in document transmissions.

Downloading, installing and configuring the Stripe e-invoicing App

The A-Cube Stripe e-invoicing App is natively integrated with Stripe and available in its Marketplace, from which it can be downloaded quickly. After installing it, you need to:

  • register for the A-Cube service using a valid email address and following the step-by-step instructions

  • fill in the form with your personal and billing details, which will be used to complete the sender information on outgoing electronic invoices

  • accept and sign the T&Cs using your smartphone and the OTP received

  • choose a subscription plan.

Alternatively, it is possible to try the app completely free of charge by sending a maximum of 10 documents per month.

After these first steps, it is necessary to briefly configure the App by adding:

  • the tax position (RF01 for ordinary companies or RF19 for the simplified tax regime)

  • the type of products and/or services that will be sold through the Stripe account.

The settings entered can then be changed if necessary.

Configuring the settings

On the App Settings page, which you can find by clicking the three dots at the top right, it is possible to:

  • select the user interface language

  • choose not to send invoices if the amount is zero

  • set a default tax rate; if no VAT rate is found, the invoice or receipt will not be sent

  • select the invoicing sending setting, which can be done manually or automatically when the invoice is finalised or when a customer pays

  • decide whether or not to opt for automatic invoice numbering

  • allow the sending of B2C invoices

  • automatically apply the stamp to the invoice when necessary.

The A-Cube app for Stripe also allows the sending of electronic receipts. These can be enabled after delegating A-Cube to send the receipts on behalf of the company. To do this directly from the app, there is a step-by-step guide that involves access to the Revenue Agency portal.

Using the A-Cube e-invoicing App for Stripe

Directly from the Stripe Dashboard it is possible to send and monitor both invoices and electronic receipts. If it is not necessary to send electronic invoices but you still have an obligation to issue receipts, it is possible to set the App up for this specific need only.

In addition to the Stripe dashboard, you can use the A-Cube one, which allows you to monitor invoicing flows more closely, correcting and resending any rejected invoices.

At any time, in fact, you can check the sending and status of invoices from the dashboard, download a copy of the XML or PDF file, use filters and set different tax regimes and invoice formats.

Those who need to monitor invoicing flows, consumption and total or VAT-number-aggregated usage statistics more closely can opt for a more specific service. And, if more advanced features are needed, it is always possible to integrate the information generated by the App for Stripe into any ERP or add other features to workflows thanks to the other A-Cube APIs.

Plans and free trial for the Stripe App

Anyone thinking of integrating the A-Cube Stripe App can choose the usage plan that best meets their needs. The available plans allow sending up to a maximum threshold of documents at a fixed fee, beyond which an extra charge is applied for each send.

To choose the most suitable plan, we recommend taking into consideration the number of documents, invoices, receipts and credit notes sent each month. The service is free up to 10 documents. In this way, it is possible to try it with no initial costs and understand all its potential. For more information, see the service FAQ and the technical details of how the app works.
